Description
Audi A4 / A6 2.4 V6 APS / ACK / AAH (A) Gearbox
The automatic gearbox for the Audi A4 (B5) and A6 (C5) 2.4L (APS) and 2.8L (ACK / AAH) V6 engines is a ZF unit, most commonly the ZF 5HP19. These transmissions are commonly available from used parts dealers and import specialists. Because the V6 petrol engine family is well-known, many suppliers list the gearbox by the corresponding engine codes, which helps identify the correct part.
Engine codes and corresponding gearboxes.
To get the right part, you must confirm the correct engine and gearbox codes.
- APS (2.4L V6): Often paired with a variant of the ZF 5HP19, particularly in the later C5 A6 models.
- ACK (2.8L V6 30V): This 30-valve V6 engine was also fitted with a ZF 5HP19 automatic transmission.
- AAH (2.8L V6 12V): The older 12-valve AAH engine (found primarily in the A4 B5) used an earlier ZF automatic gearbox, such as the ZF 4HP18.
How to confirm the correct gearbox code
The most reliable way to find the correct gearbox code is to check the data sticker in your vehicle.
- Service book:Â Check the inside front cover of your car’s service record book for the vehicle data label.
- Spare wheel well:Â A duplicate of this label is often located under the boot carpet.
- VIN check:Â A reputable parts supplier can also confirm the correct gearbox for your specific vehicle by checking the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
